1986-1987 Season  

  • There were 684 players registered with Calgary Ringette
  • Calgary hosted the "A" level Provincial Playoffs at Southland Leisure Centre on March 6-8, 1987. There were a total of 12 teams competing. Calgary Debs and Juniors won the Gold medal and the Calgary Tweens won the Silver Medal.
  • Average Bingo revenues were $163.60 per event
  • Head coaches were required to have Level 1 Technical in order to be permitted to coach in Calgary City Playoffs and to get permission to attend sanctioned tournaments
  • Baco Ohama produced the "Calgary Ringette Gazette". Dana Oikawa from the Bonavista Bunnies drew the cover (right)

  • Calgary hosted a "B" level tournament in conjunction with National Ringette Week. The tournament had a total of 36 teams (16 out of town) who competed in Novice, Petite, Tween, Junior and Belle divisions
  • Tournament Committee Members included: Marg Gobert, Liz Dielessen, Bob Thompson, Bryan Simonson, Laura Webb, Rita Frandsen, Beth Thompson, Fran Mount, Beth Thompson, Helena Wilson, Jim Dielesse
  • Champions were:
    Novice - St. Albert Jets
    Petite - Lake Bonavista Blazers
    Tween - Acadia Silver Blades
    Junior Belle - Lake Bonavista Royals
    Belle - Heritage Ringers
  • The Calgary Ringette Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday, April 4, 1987. Each community was allowed one vote plus one vote for each registered team within that community. A coaches meeting was held prior to the AGM where coaches could voice their concerns
  • Due to Bingo revenues, this was the first season that Calgary Ringette was able to pay their inital ice allocation bill.
  • Micron Ringette Week was held February 1-8, 1987

 

  • An "A" level (rep) tournament, sponsored for the second time by Esso Resources was held on January 2-4, 1987.
  • Chairpersons were Laura Webb and Ray Lee.
  • 21 Teams from Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan and Manitoba competed at the Tween, Junior, Belle, and Deb levels.
  • Champions were:
    Tween - Calgary Blazers, Junior Belle - Calgary Classics
    Belle - Edmonton, Deb - Edmonton Silver Bullets

Calgary hosted "A" Provincials in March of 1997.

Tournament Committee members included: Dianne Preuter, Sherry Fairclough, Laura Webb, Larry Christensen, Bill Stabler, Dave Todd and Karl Revenko

 

  • Entry fees for teams attending Provincial Championships were $175.
  • Ringette Alberta Player registration fees were $5.00 per player.
  • Calgary Ringette passed a motion in September 1986 stating that only "TUBE TYPE" skates may be used to play ringette (no picks allowed).
  • City Ice rental fees were $55 per hour
  • Referees worked exhibition games free.
    Regular league charges were: Petite and under $5, Tween $6, Junior $7, and Belle and over $8
  • 110 girls attended the 1986 Booster Club Ringette School. For the first time an "advanced instruction" session was held.
  • Ringette Canada Rulebooks cost $1.50 each
  • Extended Zone Ringette was implemented in the 1986-87 Season.
  • Two level 1 technical coaching clinics were held in Calgary (Oct & Nov). The cost to attend was $20.
  • Two referee clinics were held (Oct & Nov). The fee to attend was $20
